Every community needs people who build the technology, create the connections, open the doors, and make sure someone is there when a member asks, "What's next?" TechRise is built by people at different stages of the same ecosystem.

01 · The community builder

Essence

TechRise Community Manager

TechRise isn't valuable because people can create an account. It's valuable because someone is intentionally building the community on the other side of that account.

Where it started

Essence first came to WCT as a student through a virtual design session. She went on to earn a Google Digital Marketing certificate. That first session turned into a certificate, then a community, and now she's the one making sure the next member feels that same click.

Building the room

Essence keeps TechRise alive between the big moments: welcoming new members, starting conversations, sharing resources and opportunities as they come in, and checking in when someone goes quiet.

What members ask for

Real answers. How do I get experience? Is this role for me? Who can look at my resume? Community matters because nobody should have to figure those out alone.

What's next

A place members never really leave, where today's newest member becomes tomorrow's advisor.

02 · The builder

Francis

TechRise App Developer

TechRise needed a digital home. Someone had to build it.

"Technology should solve real problems for real people."

Where it started

Francis is a software engineer from Malawi with more than a decade of experience building technology for health, education, agriculture, and finance. He co-founded Lync Systems and trains others in digital skills.

How he found WCT

As a 2025 Mandela Washington Fellow, Francis completed his Professional Development Experience with We Create Tech in Atlanta, and built the TechRise app: the companion app that gives members their community and resources on the go.

Building for real people

Building for a real community means building with it. The app keeps growing as members use it and share what they need next.

What's next

He's pursuing an MPhil at the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences, researching real-world uses of AI. Proof that an ecosystem doesn't stop at a border.
